Lotus Born

Created in Maya by Daniel Arnold-Mist. This character is amazing, the shaping of the patterned swirls must of taken an extremely long time to model. I think he must of extruded the patterned shapes around to create the basic form and then altered the thickness to add curvature by point by point. He also must have thought a lot about the structure of the model and as you look deeper he includes mechanical cogs as a form of the brain. It is very impressive in how he has design a humanoid character from mechanic parts.

Brain Vomit

Created by Neil Hanvay. I like this piece as it very detailed and it has a massive range of highly imaginative characters all compacted in as one. With the black outlining for each character and the and the similar colour scheme they all blend together very well.

Maya Mental Ray

To generate 3D models to be the best quality that they can possibly be they are rendered by the software Mental Ray. As a part of Autodesk Maya and 3D studio Max, Mental Ray increases the different levels of the shading effects that feature in the 3D software. Whats absolutely amazing is that Mental Ray impacts every little detail by selecting the perfect amount of light and darkness of the modelled object creating an overall photorealistical image. With this type of software constantly evolving, sooner or later i think that there will be no need for actors to play in films as 3D design will cover all areas.

Tsvetomir Georgiev

Georgiev is a 3D character concept artist from Bulgaria. Mainly using 3D studio max, Photoshop and z brush he focuses his designs around mythical creatures and other monsters that are featured in games and films such as Clash of the Titans and Doom. The textures he creates like the fur for a creature or any muscular areas are stunning. with the different dark and light shading of the character, the skin features blend together perfectly. Here are some of my favourite designs

Rhonda 3D

Rhonda is another 3D tool created by the software designer, Amit Pitaru. Its gives the the artist the ability to create 3D wire framed models by drawing them by hand. Once drawn the design can be rotated in multiple directions and additional sketching can continue from the different angles. Although its at its early stages i think that this type of software could become very useful in the near future. As many of today's, 3D software is extremely complicated and difficult to learn, 2D artists will be able to make models from their basic drawing skills.

Mudbox

Another modeling tool, Mud-box is very different to maya as it does not use any vertex points, edges or face to shape an object. Instead the program is structured as if you were using your hands in clay. You are able to smooth stretch and indent into the model using the different thicknesses of tools that are featured. Similar to Z Brush this software can be quite useful for adding further details on textures after creating the main model form in Maya.

Gorillaz video

the effects and motion tracking in this music video are very impressive and really make the 3D models look more natural. One of the main features that really makes an impact is the lighting and shadows. As the sun hits the moving car, light effects are also added across to the characters faces, blending them together with the actual footage.

Clash of the Titans

They synchronisation of the motion and sound in this trailer is excellent. I especially like the quick scene at 1.15, of the scorpion as its stinger plunges into the ground it fits perfectly well with the louder beat of the drum sequence.

god of war 3 characters concept art

Gaia

Poseidon

Chimera

Hades
these are a few pieces of concept art of some of the characters featured in god of war 3. they are very detailed at the first stages of 2D design, but even more impressive as the 3D models as the textures of them are so imaginative and natural. In motion the surfaces of the charaters play a big part in the actual game play. The character Gaia, is designed as a moving piece of earth and you are able to climb up her body to reach higher levels.

dantes inferno review

After hearing the info and mixed reviews about this game i decided to buy it. the game starts off quickly as a medieval warrior where you are to rescue the love of your life's soul from hell fighting off various monsters.
the fighting style is like a typical hack and slash arcade adventure where you advance through the different seven deadly sins areas. It is very similar to the God of War games, at times in the gameplay you have a battle time sequence where you have to press the right buttons at the right time as they appear on screen. The worst point of the game is that you are given only two weapons. The main weopon is the scyfe and the projectile weapon is the holy cross. Throughout the game you are able to upgrade similar moves for each weapon but still the actions are very limited. after a while they both become quite tedious and i soon lost interest in them. the creatures are quite grusome and very creative especially the cerberus character

The enviroments covered with a wide range of textures and they work well with the mood of the game, but after a while they feel and look the same making the gameplay less inventive.

Avatar face

taken from the film avatar, this picture is a great example of how the sub divisions are modeled to form the facial features. when in motion the sub divisions can be stretched keeping the rest of the face more structured adding more realism

maya face model

This is another way of modeling a basic face which could be very useful in the near future. Instead of starting with one square and then shaping it round the planes as one, this example starts of with two sections for the eye and mouth for better movement. It is then is extruded around the rest of the head.

Get Out
Uploaded by Esma-Movie. - Full seasons and entire episodes online.
love the character designs featured in this short film. i especiallly like the scene with the two huge dark eyed male nurses side by side with the dwarf doctor. with door frame behind them. reminds me of a door man with a bunch of gormless bouncers guarding a doorway to a nightclub.

z brush

Z brush looks to be a very useful program to help with 3D modeling. It is used to add more detailing and texture to a surface such as veins, scales, different skin types. It also makes the model look more smooth giving it a realistic sharpness to it. It is preferably used after its main shape form has been created in maya.

Manga Simpsons

I like this design as they have captured all of the main features used in the original Simpsons characters and have added more detail too. Because of this extra detailing focused around the expressions and the lining around the shapes of the bodies they look more realistic. It gives the viewer more of an idea to what they would look like if they were human.

Watching this video makes me think just how quick a character can form from just a few shapes and lining. When designing my 2D character planes i tend to add a large amount detail and complicate things more when modeling them in Maya. In future i will make my drawing more simplistic.

God OF War 1 and 2 for PS3

Waiting for the third installment of god of war, Capcom are now also going to rerelease the original first two games for the Playstation 2 on to the Playstation 3. It is quite rare that a recent game such as this is remade so quickly but dew to its high popularity this is possible. The two games will are being remade as the same but will be running at 60 frames per second making them look more fluent. As greek mythology is a keen interst of mine and because of the massive amount of violence used in the game i will once again be buying the games.

Joker- Arkham Asylum style.

What really caught my eye about the Batman Arkham Asylum game was that the character design had been based more around the comic-book style. As the dark knight film had came out more recently and nearer to the game i thought the joker would be more like film character. Although making them look more like cartoons does look equally effective. i think because they are out of scale they look more gothic and gives of more of a dangerous mood to the game. Especially the jokers character, as his lanky body and wide smile makes him look more sadistic and deranged.

Project Natal Xbox 360

Xbox 360 in, Nintendo Wii out. With the new project natal this machine tracks body movements and synchronized in the actual gameplay. It is very similar to the i pet for the Playstation 3 but is not as limited and can be also used for other games. As this motion tracking technology is evolving and no objects are needed to be held during gameplay i think the Wii will soon go extinct sooner than later. Mainly because of the lack of graphics the wii has people will turn to the next best thing.

3D character

A lot like caricatures these 3D models capture the main characteristics of a stereotype and enlarge the features what makes them stand out.
